How Does Reserve Work?

My reserve month is finally completed, and I cannot at all believe the luck I’ve had. Not one turn around. This is pretty much unheard of! So whoever was looking down on me in crew rostering, thank you, you’re gonna have some good karma. Anyway, I thought I would do a little post just to show you what a reserve month can look like for those who don’t really understand or its confusing or don’t really get what reserve is. We have reserve usually around once every 7 months and its to basically ensure that the airline can still run smoothly for crew who are ill, flights that are much busier or if someone doesn’t show up for a flight. There always needs to be crew on call that can be pulled at the last minute. It was a long month for me as I am someone who loves having a plan and being organised so this for me was tough never knowing what I was doing, but as you’ll read below in a little bit it was actually pretty good for me!

Day 1: Day Off
Day 2: Rest

I hope that explains crew life a little bit better and if you have any questions just put them in the comments below. I’m currently at home having a little break from work, but it is so unbelievably cold here that I cannot wait to get back to Dubai for some sunshine in my life. My next trip is to Durban, so stay posted for what I get up to in South Africa!

  1. So when it says layover, that means you’re simply in that city for all of those days+your days off?!

So where it’s written New York Layover that includes the flight and the layover. My days off are days off in Dubai 😊

If you get an absent so you miss your eGate before your flight this will be marked down and you will be called in to see your manager and they will speak with you etc

Hi, im just wondering, if its written DAY OFF (RSV) on June 29 & 30 and my reserve month will start on July. I am just wondering if its a day off or no?

For emirates crew Day Off RSV means a day off however if there happens to be an extreme shortage of crew your roster could be changed but they would call you to ask. I’ve never had this happen to me or anyone I know though!

I can say there’s a 99.999999999% chance you won’t get called. Take it as a day off!
