Showery Switzerland

My latest trip was to Zürich in Switzerland and despite it raining the WHOLE time we were there for our 26 hour layover, I had such a wonderful trip and ate SO much good food! It was an 8am departure from Dubai International Airport so an early start. The flight was around 6 hours 30 with a very full cabin, so it was none stop the whole way there. We landed at lunchtime, checked in at the hotel and me and some other crew decided to meet downstairs 40 minutes later to go into the city and do some sightseeing!

We got the hotel bus over to the airport and from there took a train to Zürich Hauptbahnhof which would take us right into the city centre! We got off the train and wandered around this HUGE train station for quite a while trying to find the way out until I remembered that Ausgang means exit in German (all those times skiing have given me some useful german phrases) and we found our way into the city. The rain was still powering on and it was much colder than we were used to in Dubai so it was umbrellas up and thick warm coats, hats, scarves and gloves on! We wandered around in the direction of Lake Zürich as this was something we all wanted to see.

A few of the crew were hungry so we wandered around looking for a place to eat. One of the girls had been here a couple of years ago and remembered eating at a really good restaurant with amazing cheese fondue which we finally stumbled upon with her good memory.

We sat down in the warm wooden restaurant out of the cold and the rain and I ordered a hot chocolate whilst I decided what I wanted to eat. Four of the other crew were ordering cheese fondue so I ordered some fish and would try some of their cheese fondues as they all went for different versions.

The fondue was absolutely amazing! We had an original cheese fondue, one with ham and mushrooms, one with prosecco and pears and another with vegetables. My favourite was actually just the original just cheese one but it was rather sickly after a while so I’m glad I opted for the fish.

After we paid the bill we headed over to Lake Zürich however because it was dark now you couldn’t really see how impressive it was which was a bit of an anti climax. So we headed back to the train station to go back to the hotel and go to bed as we were all tired from our very early start and flight over.

Believe it or not, this is actually Lake Zurich…

The next morning I woke early(ish) and headed down to breakfast as I’d heard good things and as crew we could have the full buffet for just 8 swiss franks. I made the most of the breakfast and ate until I was stuffed whilst taking in the views out of the huge french windows.

I then headed back to my room, got ready and went to meet the rest of the crew for the flight back to Dubai. I had a lovely layover in Zürich, its a very pretty place and a new country to tick off my list. My next flight is a quick turn around to Kuwait in a few days time, but straight after that I go to Stockholm!

Hi Jess. Your blog is very interesting and i enjoy reading it. I am interested in being a cabin crew with Emirates. I am from Kenya and they only seem to recruit here once a year. I want to attend an open day in another country, preferably UK. Could you kindly let me know how long i would need especially between the CV drop off and the FI? I am aware i would be responsible to cover all costs. Thanks in advance for your help.

Hey Camila, glad you enjoy the blog! It really varies it can take a week or so? For more it took longer as I had university commitments so I had to wait over a month but if you’re coming simply for that no more than two weeks if you’re successful through all stages? Good luck!
